2020 Summer Entrepreneurship Program

Overview

We were thrilled to offer the first annual summer entrepreneurship program in 2020 in Dallas, Texas! Sponsored by generous individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors, the program was offered free of charge to students ages 7-18 and registration was on a first come, first serve basis.

Students started and ran a business over the course of the three week program (July 11th - August 1st) using our self-guided business kits or video course, and also received daily training videos to accelerate the growth of their business.


They were also able to enter their best pitch video into a competition to win prizes of up to $500 cash, a Google Home, and prizes from Baylor University and The Dallas Mavericks!

  • Self-guided video course to come up with your own business idea!

Each business kit comes with the actual raw ingredients, packaging, and marketing materials to make around $50 in sales, and it also comes with a curriculum booklet that guides the entire process from product creation through making sales. The self-guided video curriculum walks step-by-step through the process of creating and launching a business.

Students also received one or more daily videos during the three weeks that helped launch and accelerate their business, including:

  • Entrepreneurship 101: Why entrepreneurship, and what can you accomplish? Plus how to generate creativity and perseverance!
  • Designing and launching your business: How much to charge, where to find your first customers, and what to do with the money you make.
  • Pitch Video Filming: How film a pitch video, what to include in your sales pitch, and how to create a selling mentality. PLUS enter our business pitch competition for a chance to win real prizes including gear and prizes from The Dallas Mavericks, Baylor University, and more!
  • Financial Literacy Basics: Open a savings account with the profits from your business and learn how much money that might become if you start saving early! Plus basic tax and legal considerations for your new business.
